The Community Impact Research Fellow will play a pivotal role in advancing CFHV’s mission by conducting comprehensive research to assess community needs, strengths, and opportunities for improvement in Ulster, Putnam, and Dutchess Counties. The Fellow will synthesize existing surveys such as the Hudson Valley Indicators, Sienna College Research Institute’s Upstate New York Business Leaders Survey, United Way ALICE Report, Pattern for Progress data, and NYCON’s State of the Nonprofit Sector Report. Additionally, the Fellow will design and implement new surveys to gather insights from individuals and organizations within the region. The main objectives include identifying factors that contribute to the region’s appeal as a community to live and work in and assessing market threats affecting those areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Synthesize existing surveys and reports to analyze trends, challenges, and opportunities in Dutchess, Putnam, and Ulster Counties.
  • Design and implement new surveys to gather insights from individuals and organizations within the region.
  • Analyze survey data to identify key findings and trends related to community needs, strengths, and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with CFHV staff, donors, and community partners to interpret research findings and develop strategies to address identified needs.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate research findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of CFHV’s grantmaking and initiatives on the communities served and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Eligibility and Qualifications

  • Applicants must be in a full-time graduate program.
  • Applicants must have existing authorization to work in the United States.
  • This is a temporary and time-limited position. Fellows must start in June 2024 (date flexible). The Fellowship ends in May 2025. Fellows must commit to the entire period.
  • Fellows must remain enrolled as full-time graduate students for the entire Fellowship.
  • Fellows must be pursuing a graduate degree in a related field preferred (e.g., Public Policy, Sociology, Nonprofit Management).
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with experience in qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear and compelling reports and presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Familiarity with survey design and data collection methodologies.
  • Knowledge of the Hudson Valley region and/or experience in community development or philanthropy is a plus.
  • Able to drive to on-site locations to collect information and interview stakeholders.

Compensation: This position pays $23/hour. The position is on-site at our Poughkeepsie office. In-person field research is required. Fellows are eligible for paid federal holidays and state-mandated safe/sick leave.
