POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – “The Poughkeepsie Read” program of Poughkeepsie Public Library District received a major funding boost on October 7, 2015, when Dr. Maung S. Htoo, President of Vassar Brothers Institute, presented a $3,000 check from the Vassar Brothers Institute Donor Advised Fund of the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley. The Irving & Gloria Schlossberg Family Fund joined in with an additional $3,000 grant, and the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley granted nearly $4,000 in matching support from its Big Read/Poughkeepsie Fund to help fully fund the program.
The book for this year’s Poughkeepsie Read is John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath. The PPLD will host up to 80 public programs throughout six school districts, nine public libraries and three colleges from Beacon to Hyde Park in Dutchess County.
The Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley met a crucial need by reaching out to other fund holders to keep the widely anticipated Poughkeepsie Read program running throughout Dutchess County in 2015. The Poughkeepsie Public Library District also received support from local community members for the program.
The Poughkeepsie Read program is running now, with a closing reception scheduled for November 22. If you would like to be more involved, please contact: Jewel Ratzlaff at jratzlaff@poklib.org or call (845) 485-3445 ext. 3372.
