Apply Now for Education Grants and Scholarships Through Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley has opened the online application process for a spring round of more than $385,000 in education grants and scholarships in Dutchess, Putnam and Ulster counties and beyond.
"With hundreds of scholarships and significant grants for laboratory equipment, STEM and writing programs, donors to the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley continue to improve educational opportunities in the Hudson Valley,” said March S. Gallagher, Esq., President and Chief Executive Officer. “Education grants, field trip grants, scholarships and other gifts to education from our donors’ funds represented nearly a quarter of our fund distributions last year, and we expect a similar trend this year. We also are pleased to add schools in Putnam County to our list of eligible education grant applicants.”
Opportunities for teachers and students include the following:

The Fund for Excellence in Education provides general grants to Pre-K-12 teachers at public, parochial and private/independent schools to support special classroom projects that improve learning opportunities for students, or for teacher professional development (not to fulfill as Master’s program or certification requirements). Additional opportunities include grants for professional development for teaching writing or enhancing student writing, as well as several smaller grants for public schools in specific geographic locations.
This year, Verizon Foundation is supporting teachers with Verizon STEM Grants for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) projects, activities and equipment.
Taconic IPA Science Education Grants in Dutchess, Orange and Ulster provide teachers with opportunities to expand learning in the sciences through the acquisition of classroom and laboratory science equipment. Public, private and parochial secondary teachers (Grades 7-12) in New York State licensed and certified schools in Dutchess, Orange and Ulster counties may apply.

Applications are due March 15, 2016. Awards will be announced in May.
Scholarships for Hudson Valley Students
High school seniors and other students region-wide seeking financial help for college or vocational training may apply for a variety of scholarships offered through the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley. Last year, more than $275,000 was awarded in scholarship funds to high-achieving students, thanks to the generosity of 65 families, individuals and community groups.
Some of the scholarships are earmarked for students in specific school districts or for those pursuing a specialized course of study. Others are open to all graduating seniors.
